Annual Report 2025, Belgrade

During last year, the NW project titled “(EuroHE)European Research into Higher Education: portrait of trends within ECER Conferences“ has been developed. The initiative enabled fruitful discussions about higher education as a field of research within in-presence and online meetings that took place with the participation of various convenors and 3 doctoral students. The project is its final phase, resulting in deepen knowledge about research into higher education being presented at ECER conferences and exploring international scientific collaboration within the framework of epistemic (in)equity. Thus a paper was presented at ECER 2025 drawing on the project results that will also be disseminated via a paper in a scientific journal and an entry in the EERA blog.

In Belgrade 178 proposals were presented within NW22 mostly (161) in paper format. Nevertheless, different formats such as the research workshop and the panel discussion should be highlighted as particularly stimulating sessions focusing, respectively, innovative methodological approaches in research and strategies to support international doctoral students. It is also important to mention the increase in the number of posters presented (in line with the general trend in the conference), as well as a significant improvement of posters overall quality.

As in previous years NW22 programme has been organised on the basis of ensuring diversity of countries and regions in each session as much as possible, as well as searching for thematic coherence in the set of papers that constitute a specific session. In 2025 the thematic axis that attracted a highest number of papers, resulting in more sessions, were: Teaching, Learning and Assessment; Academic Work and Professional Development; Inclusion and Diversity; which is a similar trend when compared to ECER 2023 and ECER2024.

Given the high number of submissions within NW 22 we are truly very grateful for the work done by the following reviewers: Ana Baptista; Ana Mouraz; David Rodríguez-Gómez; Diana Mesquita; Franziska Lessky; Kallia Katsampoxaki-Hodgetts; Gihan Ismail; Giulio Marini; Gregor Shafer; Johanna Annala; Pauline Taylor-Guy; Roeland Rijst.

Each network holds a Network Meeting during ECER and invites interested researchers to join. We have collected the network meeting minutes.
