Annual Report 2008, Göteborg

The network had a very successful programme at ECER 2008 with a total of 132 proposals which included several symposia, including joint sessions with Network 1 on Teacher Professional Development and Network 6 Open Learning: Media, Environemnts and Cultures.

The Opening Symposium of the network aimed to address the central question ‘From Teaching to Learning: what are the implications for teachers' work?’ This was a well attended symposum that generated a high level of debate and dialogue. The collection of papers from the symposium will be published in a special edition of the European Educational Research Journal (EERJ) in 2009 edited by Brian Hudson and Meinert Meyer under the title of ‘Reclaiming Teaching’.
Similarly the joint symposium with Network 1 was well attended and also generated a high level of debate and dialogue. The joint session with Network 6 was also well attended and focussed on the question 'From Teaching to Learning: digital portfolio as assessment for learning?'

It is planned to publish papers in a forthcoming volume of Seminar.net edited by Brian Hudson and Mart Laanpere.

Network Business Meeting

The Annual General meeting was attended by twenty colleagues and a range of issues were discussed. These included the need to find more colleagues willing to chair sessions so as to spread the load and to relieve the current group. It was agreed that it was important for each presenter to provide a short single page summary of their presentation which summarises the main argument and key references. This was also taken up at the meeting on convenors at the end of the conference.
The relation to the new network on mathematics education was discussed and it was agreed that there was a need to emphasise the value of the inter-disciplinary and cross-subject nature of the didactics, learning and teaching network. This led into discussions for how best to structure the network programme in 2009.

Each network holds a Network Meeting during ECER and invites interested researchers to join. We have collected the network meeting minutes.
