The ECER conference in Tampere was very successful for NW27. In comparison to the ECER conference in Belgrade, 2025, there was a very high number of submissions, 195 in total. The rejection rate was 45,65 %, which is among the highest for ECER, but in line with the established reviewing routines of the network. The final programme comprised 34 sessions, 70 papers, 6 posters, 4 panel discussions and 7 symposia.
The Tuesday morning workshop, maintained by Laura Tamassia and Anatoli Rakhkochkine, was very well attended, received positive feedback and will be planned for 2027 as well.
The round table Connecting with Finnish research in didactics, organised by Anke Wegner, took place as the first session of our network. This planning choice provided a particularly interesting conference start and will be continued in the next years, with further fine tuning of the prompt for the participating researchers in order to achieve an even sharper picture of the didactics research arena in the host country.
The double panel discussion organized by Florence Ligozat for the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the network (20 years of the EERA Network 27: European Didactics Research from Foundations to Future Directions) was received very well and will provide interesting starting points for further panel discussions in the upcoming conference in Debrecen.
The 2026 special call Educational research on didactics, teaching and learning in times of uncertainty. Societal demands, individual needs and scientific contributions in a changing world was very well responded to with 105 submissions.
The organisational complexity of this year’s conference, due to the increase in the number of participants, limited the possibility to organise joint sessions to 2: 1 with network 31 (language and education) and 1 with network 4 (inclusive education).
To conclude, this year’s conference, marking the 20th anniversary of network 27, proved to be a particularly rich and successful one for our network. Very positive feedback has been received concerning the following points: (a) quality of the venues and local organisation; (b) quality of the presenters and presentations in all sessions; (c) high number of symposia (7) and panel discussions (4,) leading to stimulating international collaborations and discussions within the network.
Furthermore, the convenors decided to edit a new EERA publication in the book series Transdisciplinary Perspectives in Educational Research, a follow-up of the publication Didactics in a Changing World. European Perspectives on Teaching, Learning and Curriculum edited by Florence Ligozat, Kirsti Klette and Jonas Almqvist.
With regard to the upcoming ECER conference in Debrecen 2027 (Learning Communities in Education. Individual Paths and Shared Futures in a Changing World), the network aims at maintaining a high number of symposia and panel discussions. The Tuesday morning workshop and the round table Connecting with Hungarian Research in Didactics will also take place. The core topic of the network, Didactics in times of uncertainty, will be specified by a special call on Didactics, policy and politics: exploring the complex interplay between learning and teaching and education governance, in order to prepare a relevant part of the planned book publication. The convenors team has changed: Jérôme Santini (Nice, University of Côte d’Azur) accepted to be nominated as a new co-convenor, and he was elected. He will strengthen the convenors team which for the rest remains unchanged with respect to last year. Anke Wegner (Trier) is link convenor, Laura Tamassia (Hasselt) deputy link convenor. Further co-convenors are Marte Blikstadt-Balas, Oslo; Georg Breidenstein, Halle; May Jehle, Mainz; Benoît Lenzen, Geneva; Florence Ligozat, Geneva; Eva Lundqvist, Uppsala; Matthias Martens, Köln; Anatoli Rakhkochkine, Erlangen-Nürnberg; Gérard Sensevy, Rennes.
Overall, this was another good conference for Network 27. There is a strong interest in didactics across the European community of researchers, and the N27 members are looking forward to the next ECER.
