Annual Report 2026, Tampere

During this year, in terms of communication, NW29 has been informing the community about Calls and proposals in arts and education. Regarding publications, in December 2025 an Special Issue has been launched about 'Challenging Conformity in Arts Education and Through the Arts in Education' on the Journal of Research in Arts Education: https://journal.fi/rae/issue/view/13117; in July of 2026, the Proceedings of ECER 2025 has also been published: http://hdl.handle.net/10256/29268. Finally, with the aim of reinforcing the NW29 community, we have started preparing a collaborative platform (still in process).

With reference to ECER 2026, we would like to highlight the engagement of participants and the enriching discussions and conversations emerged, embracing all kind of arts (visual arts, performing arts, music, literature, dance, theatre, architecture, and design), from different parts of the world (mainly from Europe but also from the United States, Japan, China, Korea, among others). This fact enriched the conversations and allowed researchers to learn more about arts and education in distinct contexts. Also, it is important to mention the diversity of approaches and methodologies to research presented, as well as the formats of presentations, especially in the research workshops presented, in response to a Special Call about Experimental and Risky formats in arts and education.

In addition to paper and workshop sessions specific to arts education, NW29 included two joint sessions, one with NW4. Inclusive Education, and another one with NW30. Environmental and Sustainability Education Research (ESER); they allowed attendees to know research in arts education in a more transdisciplinary way.

A special mention should be made of the researchers who presented research posters this year. The presentations were very insightful and the topics very current and relevant.

Each network holds a Network Meeting during ECER and invites interested researchers to join. We have collected the network meeting minutes.
