ECER 2018 in Bolzano has been an exciting and enriching experience. Submissions reflected the research in such areas as CLIL, translanguaging, plurilingual curricula, language awareness, multilingual literacy skills and literacy practices. According to the statistics provided by the network chairs, the presented paper sessions and symposia were of high quality and well-attended. We initiated a special call on the Inclusion of multiple languages in mainstream education, which brought together European expertise on resources and challenges of including multiple languages in mainstream education. The participants particularly appreciated the quality of the discussions in symposia, which were submitted in response to this special call.
Network on Language and Education promotes collaboration and exchange between experienced and early career researchers. At ECER2018, Sarah McMonagle and Antje Hansen from KoMBi-team (German Coordination Office for Multilingualism and Language Education) offered a capacity building workshop workshop for emerging researchers and introduced various ways of implementing Delphi survey method in education science. The workshop advanced productive and interactive dialogue about this iterative and reflective research approach.
We are further pleased to announce that our network community grows and thrives. Network meeting and network dinner were well-attended and offered enough space to generate ideas for promoting further collaboration among the researchers within the network.
We would like to recognize the efforts of reviewers, chairs, convenors as well as all network supporters and participants who made ECER2018 possible.
