In 2021, following previous sessions within ECER and Network 6. Open Learning: Media, Environments and Cultures, the colleagues Valentin Dander, Theo Hug, Ina Sander, and Rachel Shanks published the special issue “Digital Capitalism, Datafication, and Media Education: Critical Perspectives” in the journal Seminar.net 17 (2): https://journals.oslomet.no/index.php/seminar/issue/view/445. In 2023, the article from this special issue “Technology giants, educational policy and a preliminary mapping of networks and channels of influence in a Norwegian context” by Geir Haugsbakk was cited in the “Global Education Monitoring Report” (https://doi.org/10.54676/UZQV8501) stating that “Key commercial actors act as both salespeople and advisors at the same time” (p. 4). This means that publications from EERA/ECER in scholar-led Diamond Open Access journals are influential on policy levels such as UNESCO and others. This should be encouraging for colleagues within the community to publish in similar befriended journals like Education in the North, Zeitschrift MedienPädagogik, medienimpulse.at, etc.
