WERA - Inaugural Events during ECER 2009

The World Education Research Association WERA, a major new scholarly society with a global reach, will be formally recognized in ceremonies on September 29, 2009 in Vienna, Austria.

The event marks the end of more than two years of intensive effort by representatives of education research associations from around the world to establish a new forum to advance and share scholarly knowledge on education on an international scale.

 

WERA will be launched officially in an inaugural event on

Tuesday, September 29, 9:00 h
Großer Festsaal, Hauptgebäude Universität Wien.

Dr. Elisabeth Freismuth (Section Head, Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research);

Dr. Erhard Busek (Chairman of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe, and Rector, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences);

Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Arthur Mettinger (Vice Rector for Educational Program Development and Internationalization);

Univ. Prof. Dr. Stefan Thomas Hopmann M.A (University of Vienna, Chair of Local Organizing Committee ECER 2009)



The ceremony is followed by an international Symposium on
 

“Cumulative Knowledge, the Advancement of Theory, and Research Rigor
 in Education Research”.


SpeakersDr Eva Baker (University of California, Los Angeles and Co-Director of the Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing), Dr. Yin Cheong Cheng (Vice President for Research & Development and Chair Professor, Hong Kong Institute of Education), and Dr. Eckhard Klieme (Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt/ Main and former Director of the German Institute for International Educational Research).

Both events are open to public.
