Urban City Guiding

Berlin is one of the most exciting cities in Europe. The Prussian kingdom, the Second World War, the wall – all these historical events left their mark on the city. Take the opportunity and explore Berlin with the help of an experienced tour guide.

Places in the tours are limited and can only be booked at the Information Point in the Conference Registration. Participation will cost 10 Euro per person.
Please ensure that you arrive 10 - 15 minutes before the meeting time at the listed meeting points. Your tour guide will carry a sign "ECER guided tours" .

Monday

Tour 1: Art, Food and Fashion around the Hackescher Markt

A two hour walk through the most exciting district in the city centre. Among countless restaurants, bars, galeries and Berlin fashion stores you will discover a lot of traces of Jewish life.

Tuesday

Tour 2: Prussian Glory and what is left

A two hour walk from Berlin’s most beautiful square Gendarmenmarkt to Museums island, via Bebelplatz, Unter den Linden, Humboldt University, Schlossplatz and Berlin Cathedral.

Meeting Point: Gendarmenmarkt (U 2 and U6 Stadtmitte), Schillerdenkmal (Statue of Friedrich Schiller in front of the Schauspielhaus)

Tour 3a: Berlins exciting centre

A two hour walk from the main station (Hauptbahnhof) to Potsdamer Platz, via Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate and Holocaust Memorial
Tuesday, 13.9.2011 (3a), 4 pm
Meeting point: Hauptbahnhof, Exit Washingtonplatz (U55, S3, S5, S75)

Wednesday

Tour 4: Multicultural Kreuzberg:
A two hour walk through the district in the former western part of Berlin, where many immigrants found a new home. Together with left wing people they form an inspiring, colourful and politically hot atmosphere.

Thursday

Tour 5: Gentrification in Prenzlauer Berg

A two hour walk through the vibrant district that has changed its character in the last 20 years from a run-down working class area in the east to a popular, hot and charming district with lots of bars, restaurant, fancy shops and a very homogenous population.

Friday

Tour 6: The Berlin Wall:

A two hour walk along the former path of the wall from Brandenburg Gate to Checkpoint Charlie, via Holocaust Memorial, Potsdamer Platz, topography of terror and remains of the wall
Friday, 16.9.2011 (6a), 4 pm and Saturday 17.9.2011 (6b), 2 pm
Meeting Point: Brandenburg Gate, Tourist Information (U55,S1, S2, S25)

 

Tour 3b: Berlins exciting centre
