Research ethics: committees, creativity and care
Ethics is a neglected area of the research process, often seen as a necessary but bureaucratic process involving committees and codes of practice. It can, however, be a creative part of the research process, where participants are seen as active beneficiaries and owners of the research, rather than as passive objects of study. The workshop will provide a forum for discussion of ethical issues, especially those involving research with groups such as young people with special educational needs, marginalised communities and people with disabilities. It will help emerging researchers in all fields of educational research to take a more creative approach to ethics when writing proposals, submissions to ethics committees and in their fieldwork.
The workshop will be led by Peter Gray (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and Ewelina Rydzewska (University of Strathclyde, Scotland) and will involve group work with case study examples. Participants will be encouraged to bring their own cases for consideration in the workshop.
