How to Get Around

On Foot & by Public Transport

Hamburg is a huge city, but the old town area is best accessed on foot. In fact, walking around Altstadt or by one of the city's many canals can be very entertaining. There are also several free walking tours offered, which include attractions such as the famous Town Hall building, St. Petri medieval church, Hafen City, etc.

Public Transport
Public transportation information can be found at the Hamburg public transport website (HVV). Single tickets start at 1,50 EUR for a short journey, while day tickets cost at least 6,20 EUR.

Free HVV Tickets for all ECER Participants!

Good news: Your ECER 2019 conference badge (which you will receive at check-in) will also serve as a pre-paid ticket for the HVV, the Hamburg public transport, valid from 2- 6 September 2019. This is a 24 hour ticket for the entire Hamburg public transport system (trains, buses and ferries).

Our warmest thanks to our generous Going Green partner, the Otto Group, for making this happen!

City Bikes

The StadtRAD gives you spontaneous, individual mobility. Experience all Hamburg has to offer, whether work, leisure or tourist attractions, in a very special way, right in tune with the pulse of the city. Many hire stations throughout the entire city offer facilities round the clock for hiring and returning a StadtRAD - as simply as cycling itself.
