Travel information to Linz
By train:
There are hourly railway connections from Vienna (either form the airport station, the main station, the “Westbahnhof” station or the “Hütteldorf” station) and from Salzburg (main station).
By plane:
There are hourly bus rides from the airport of Linz (Blue Danube Airport) to the main station in Linz. The bus trip will be about 3,10 EUR. You can also take a taxi from the airport to the university, however this is quite expensive: approx. 45,00-50,00 EUR.
Tram from Linz “Hauptbahnhof” (main station) to Johannes Kepler University and to the hotel:
When arriving at Linz “Hauptbahnhof” (main station) tram 1 and 2 (direction: Universität/university) will take you directly to Johannes Kepler University and to the hotel “Sommerhaus Linz”, which is the last station of the tram. Do not take tram 3, which is the only possibility to get lost.
You need to buy a long distance ticket for the tram ("Langstrecke") for 2,20 €. Should you think about going to town in the evening from time to time, it might make sense to buy a week ticket for 13,90 € (there will be one organised trip to town for which you will also need two tickets). There are lots of ticket controls in Linz tram, therefore make sure you always have a valid and the correct ticket, as otherwise you will have to pay a 70 € fine.

Sightseeing and features of Linz
Linz lies on the Danube as few other Austrian cities do and was one of the European capitals of culture in 2009. The city is an international centre where new technologies blend with art and culture to form a powerful symbiosis. Linz invites you to experience a variety of museums: Lentos, Ars Electronica Centre, Schlossmuseum Linz, ... At least equally attractive is the surrounding of Linz. The world famous “Salzkammergut” fascinates by its marvellous lake scenery and breathtaking mountain panorama and is justifiably one of the UNESCO world heritage sites. It stretches from the city of Salzburg eastwards along the Austrian alpine foreland. Some of the magnificent landmarks are for example the lakes (Attersee, Traunsee, Mondsee, ..:), the mountains (Dachstein, Traunstein, …) and historical cities such as the former imperial summer residence, the Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl, the ceramic city Gmunden or the salt pits of Hallstatt and Hallein. In particular, Hallstatt seems to be so fabulous that it was rebuilt with a scale of 1 to 1 in China.
