This EERA Panel/Session marks the official launch of a new peer-reviewed, Diamond Open-Access journal dedicated to emerging researchers within the European Educational Research Association. The journal builds directly on the intellectual community of the Emerging Researchers’ Conference (ERC) and, for the first time, creates a structured and sustainable publication pathway for early-career scholars within EERA’s research ecosystem.
At a time when academic publishing is undergoing important changes (driven by open science policies, questions of equity in knowledge production, and growing precarity in early academic careers), the Journal represents a strategic intervention. Positioned as a Diamond Open-Access publication with no author fees, it seeks to model an inclusive, high-quality, and community-embedded approach to scholarly dissemination.
The Journal is open to full papers presented at the ERC, ensuring a strong link to EERA’s existing quality assurance processes while requiring substantial post-conference development to maintain its identity as a rigorous academic journal rather than conference proceedings. Through a double-blind peer review process that is both demanding and developmental, the initiative aims to cultivate scholarly excellence while supporting emerging researchers in navigating publication cultures.
This session will introduce the Journal’s aims, scope, editorial governance, review architecture, and Open Journal Systems infrastructure. Beyond the presentation of its operational structure, the discussion will address broader strategic themes:
Supporting emerging researchers through sustainable publishing pathways
Diamond Open Access and equitable knowledge dissemination
Quality assurance and formative support
Connecting conferences, networks, and publication infrastructures
Diversity, interdisciplinarity, and epistemic plurality in educational research
The future role of EERA in shaping research cultures
By launching this Journal, EERA affirms its commitment not only to research quality but to intergenerational continuity, epistemic plurality, and equitable participation in knowledge production. The session invites Council members, network convenors, and the wider EERA community to reflect collectively on the journal’s long-term role in strengthening a more inclusive and sustainable European research landscape.
