In Denmark, the growth of evaluative activities has been linked to the after-effects of ‘PISA shock’ and a rather different element of support for evaluation in the public interest, or in support of social democracy. Teachers are strongly affected by both of these sets of development and the survey explored their views and experiences of QAE, alongside those of Danish headteachers. To what extent are QAE practices steering Danish education, and how do they affect teacher autonomy?
Methodology: Following the agreed methodology of the international project ‘Fabricating Quality in European Education’ the results of a nationally representative survey of teachers in public mandatory schools are presented in this paper. Descriptive statistical analysis is used to give an overview of teacher and headteacher views, of their reported QAE activities, and the influences of QAE.
Conclusions. Results from the survey are discussed in relation to the consequences for the Danish teacher and the system of the growth of evaluative activities and QAE policies in Denmark and in relation to trans-national policies,(i.e. EU and OECD).
