Contribution
There is no doubt that the evolution of information technology has a profound impact on education. And, as IT is constantly evolving, educational policy evolves as well in that respect. Surveys of the impact of IT on education, often indicate significant changes in the technical infrastructure of schools, but at the same time stop short to result in major pedagogical changes in education. An overview of IT policies around the world reveals significant differences, often related to the level of economic development of a region and resulting in interesting consequences. For example, and particularly in Europe, a focus to separately stimulate use of IT in education seems to fade away to become integrated into a more global competence-based approach. This presentation will give an overview of IT policies around the world, their impact on the educational systems, and on particular lessons to be learned.
