Contribution
Aims and method
The purpose of the project is to study constructions of alliances among boys and girls where values and norms of today are the focus of the study. It is the children´s everyday interaction in the schoolyard and at the leisure time centre which are the places for the study. The challenges are on one hand to capture a child`s perspective and on the other hand look at my respondents as participants. The project has an ethnographic approach.
The theoretical perspectives in the study
Among theories in the study is social constructionism. It implies that people create their own knowledge in an institutional kontext. Interaction is a social action where people construct social relations and structures between each other (Berger Luckman, 199?). In this study it means that boys and girls in interaction with others create own peer cultures which also are changing and are important in a child´s lifetime (Cosaro, 1997). The study have also theories about children`s moral development. According to the interactive cultural tradition children are active agents in their own morality development in the peer-group (Johansson, 2007). In the study gender is seen as a social construction where boys and girls are doing gender. What does it mean when boys and girls meet each other in everyday interaction are questions in the study (Thorne, 1993).
Method
Methods
The study has an ethnography approach which is a suitable methodological way to research about children`s life and offer many ways to collect data where observation is one. Alderson (2002) points at three main areas in the research process with children.
• Stages of research when children are involved
• Levels of children´s involvement
• Methods used by young researchers
According to O`Kane (2002) the use of participatory techniques lies in the process which are a challenges for the researcher.
Expected Outcomes
Expected outcomes
The object of knowledge is to increase the understanding about boys and girls own peer-culture, where alliances highlight equality, values and norms of today.
