Contribution
Research has been carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of an ICT tool for facilitating the collaboration between teachers and school managers, in order to determine how Computer-Supported Collaborative Working (CSCW) can solve problems of increasing workload, flexible schedules, part-time work and different geographical locations. The asynchronous computer-mediated communication (CMC) system Web Knowledge Forum (WKF), developed by the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), has been used as the electronic discussion platform in this study. We examined how teachers (N=6) and managers (N=2) from a school for secondary agricultural education discussed possible changes in the organisation and in the educational program using WKF. It is argued that electronic discussion platforms have clear advantages for collaborative school policy making but that other factors, like school culture and organisational structure, are important for the successful implementation of such systems.
