Secondary school teachers in Spain, due to the recent educational reform, are undergoing a process of professional reconversion, experienced as a serious professional identity crisis (Esteve et al., 1995). Analyzing the causes of the crisis, at this time of social and educational change, is a necessary task in order to establish paths to future solutions. In this paper, the results are presented of a study that was carried out in the Education Department at the University of Granada by the Research Group AForce@. The study documents and analyzes the effects of the identity crisis (Dubar, 2000), and explains strategies for reconstructing the identity of this professional group. The methodology used consists of ten in-depth interviews (Kelchtermans, 1994) with teachers about three main areas of interest (trajectory, professional identity, current professional situation). After the first report is elaborated, it is submitted to analysis and validation by various Afocus groups" (Morgan, 1997). .
