Contribution
The inclusive education approach is a new educational paradigm assuming as central values respect, solidarity, diversity, equity and quality for all. In order to adapt to the new international educational ideas the Portuguese educational system has undergone changes for the last 15 years, having now some new legal tools that allow an educational quality response to all students. However, the deaf community still does not get a quality education. How are schools managing to provide a quality education to these children? We did a case study of a Portuguese primary school which included seven deaf students. They follow the national curriculum, but attend special classes with a Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) translator. Nevertheless, we still doubt that these children are appropriating the essential knowledge and developing their competences, as illustrated by the analysis of some cases.
