Causes of violence are numerous and the blame emerges from all sides, but one thing that researchers in the educational field have shown is that violence can grow from lack of knowing how to handle conflicts in a constructive way. GESPOSIT - Positive Management of Conflict through Social Mediation (School and Family) was a network project developed during the past two years in the area of the CONNECT Initiative promoting European projects to bridge the gap between Education and Society, sub-area combating violence in schools. The project, coordinated by Portugal, involved six European countries representing twelve institutions from various fields such as education, law, psychology, and psychiatry. This communication aims at presenting a quick overview of the overall project followed by a detailed exposition of its intervention in Portugal, namely the process and major results.
