The paper describes a number of methodological challenges encountered during research on sex and sexuality education and uses these to inform questions about pedagogical practices in this area. These questions are central to the pedagogy proposed. They aim to 'open up' debate with the intention of provoking ir-resolution about the issues raised. Using my 'self' as a resource I recount episodes from research which provoked me to ask new questions about research in sex and sexuality education and about the constitution of my research (and other) 'selves'. This then acts as a sort of rubric for pedagogical practices which work around similar questions and with similar aspirations.
