Networks for Educators This presentation focuses on the use of ICT for developing international social learning networks for school leaders to develop knowledge and skills for organizational change. An Ethnographic method was used to understand how learning communities build online across cultures, and how ICT facilitates or hinders the connections. This study revealed that strong connections formed both inside and outside the web environment and the need for dialogue about educational and global issues is strong. Numerous challenges occurred in forming virtual communities, including language barriers, the concept and use of time in an asynchronous environment across different time zones, decision making, definition of roles and responsibilities, and expectations of what it means to be a part of an online learning community. Findings presented will address the effectiveness of ICT for international community building, trends in education and globalization today, and the power of a social network for professional development in education.
