This thesis study is focused on the Swedish upper secondary school and the cultural mixes of different ethnicities and there equal value in the pedagogical environment and in the educational situation. The Swedish upper secondary schools are often a mix of ethnicities and cultures, but in this mix every single student have a place where he or she is suppose to have the same opportunities as every one else, no matter where he or she comes from. The law for the Swedish school system and also for the upper secondary school enjoin us that all pupils and students are suppose to have the same opportunities, no matter where they come from or what economical or social backgrounds that they come from. The school is a small but important community inside the larger community. The this small community has a big influence on the pupils and the students. One goal for the school is to help the pupils and students to create opinions and to function in the community with functional opinions. One opinion that is important is equal value, both in the Swedish school today but also in the Swedish society today is, every students equal value. Both natives and immigrants share both the school and the pedagogical situation. But the question is are they being treated in the same way by the school and the teachers? These immigrant students have a lot of experience and knowledge from another way of living. And these students are both a source of knowledge and a source of information. Immigrants, equality and educationThis thesis study is trying to answer questions about equality and integration in the pedagogical and educational environment. In order to collect data, interviews has been used. One of the questions ask in the interviews are if these immigrant students do feel like they are being treated in the same way by different teachers and if they feel like they have the same chances in school, the same chances as aSwedish student. It all begins in the philosophical utilitarian concept of all peoples equal value. In order to answer the questions post colonial theory and phenomenological theory and method has been used. Phenomenological theory is used in order to try to understand the pupils/students and there life world. The postcolonial theory is used in order to understand whether the school system is "suffering from" post colonial theory or not. The data has been collected by the phenomenological method life history interviews. A number of pupils and students in the age of 18-21 have been interviewed about the apprehension of equality, there understanding of equality and there experience of equality. One focus has also been if they feel that there has been any education in school about equality, immigrants and integration according the philosophical concept of all peoples equal value The immigrant students have also been interviewed about there equality towards the Swedish students in the classroom. ResultsThe immigrant students, but also the native student, who has been interviewed has answered that there is a difference in the way that immigrant students are being treated. Older teacher are more likely to treat them in an unequal way and younger teachers are more likely to treat them in an equal way. The interviewed students think that this depends on the changes of society.
