Traditionally, Vocational Education and Training (VET) have not been recognized in Spain as an integral part of the education system. Only recently has the VET entered in the educational political agenda and have been getting social acceptance. Those changes happen because 70% of the young people from specific vocational education and training found employment within six months of finishing school. This appears to be a good indicator for a definitive reunion between training and work, up to now perpetually divorced in Spain. The rapid and well known evolution of the Spanish economy in recent years as well as market demands with the exigencies of new qualifications and the consequent training demands, have awakened awareness for the fact that VET can play a relevant strategic role for the economy. That awareness have been translated to the Law of Qualifications and Vocational Education and Training which aims mainly to adaptation of training to employment. In addition, the attempt of integration - so often demanded - of initial, continuing and occupational training also considered in the that Law may also help to harmonize vocational training with social and economic change. Despite of the historical richness in terms of VET represented by varied legislation concerning the vocational education and training developed since 1928 till the present time, and although Spain has been following the directives which many European states, and the European Union itself, are establishing, VET in Spain is still a problematic area of the educational field. However, the historical development and milestones of VET in Spain constitutes a very interesting Case Study that may contribute for improvement of VET throughout European Union.
