Our title is also our research question and it arises directly from the findings of the first review presented in this symposium. It is intended to shed further light on pedagogy, specifically classroom interaction. At the time of preparing this proposal, the studies are being screened and the preparations are being made for the mapping of the existing relevant data base. The final report will be submitted in July 2005. It is proposed that the presentation will offer a flavour of the research process as well as indicate some key findings that by then will be available. It will also indicate the lines of enquiry that may be pursued in the third and final year of the project.
