In the Nordic countries there is an emerging interest on schools can raise awareness on talents, how to identify and provide for them. The research in the field concerning specific Nordic perspectives on the field is nearly non- existing. The paper presents three issues: The first issue is an outline for a culturally based understanding of talent domains based primarily on the Swedish researcher Roland Persson's work and the Danish researcher in development of young sports talents Bente Jensen. The understanding of the phenomenon talent focus on the relation between individual potentialities, interests and development possibilities provided in schools, leisure time activities, homes etc. The second issue focus on a stepwise model for identification. The empirical and theoretical approach is again based on Persson and Jensen and will discuss the scope and limitations of the models. The cornerstone in the discussion is the shift from focus on highly able or talented pupils to talent as a relational phenomenon. The third issue focus on the results from the first Danish development- and research project on teaching talented children. The results will be discussed from the perspectives of the two theoretical issues. Part of this discussion will reflect the vision of inclusive education and nurturing talents in schools. This part of the discussion will be based on The Challenge Award. Provision for Able, Gifted and Talented Pupil (NACE, UK and Buckinghamshire County Council) and this self-evaluation framework will be compared with the Index for Inclusion.
