Description: Several studies testify to the importance of the need for change in professional practices in education and health. More especially the problem of adoption of change has been addressed. It is now well established that change processes are slow and subject to a variety of influences deriving from the larger society, schools factors as well as personal features. Issues of job satisfaction and the emotional rewards of the caring professions have been the subject of several studies. Particular attention has been given to the distinction between the intrinsic rewards of teaching and nursing (relationships and caring) and extrinsic features (pay and conditions). Other emotional/motivational factors include stresses including fear of litigation and supervision arrangements .The PROFKNOW data base has the major advantage of having measures of all of these variables. This analysis will focus on examining the extent to which motivational/emotional factors are related to professional practices particularly the adoption of innovations. The findings will have important policy implications.
