Description: The return to work constitutes a decisive factor in the social integration of the immigrant community. Obviously the economic revenues condition the possibility to access to the rights of a house, health or education. Independently of the reason that originated the migration (not always for economic reasons) the search of employment is a necessary consequence. The shortage of work positions and their precariousness has linked the policy of immigration to the work conditions and the integration of the community of immigrants in the labour market.The immigrant community has found difficulties to face the search of employment: difficulties in the language, ignorance of legal rules, danger of poverty and exclusion, lack of education and difficulties to continue being formed (for their illegal situation), and susceptibility of falling in the illegal networks of work and employers.These circumstances have forced and they force the local politicians to put in practice the career counselling services for the employment, oriented to: a. To inform the immigrants on all the aspects related with the search of employment (legal rules, labour exchanges, formation possibilities, etc.). b. To evaluate the capacities and the immigrants' potentialities and their employment opportunities. c. To teach and to help to elaborate a personal itinerary of insertion. d. Pursuit of the evolution in each case. e. Carry out studies of market of the area. f. Generation of recruiting demands. g. etc. On the other hand, the counsellor that works with the immigrant population with so many psychosocial peculiarities (ecological transition, cultural shock, stress, etc.), must possess some competencies and specific personal characteristics as empathy for communication with workers (immigrants) and with the employers. He or she must to know how to share positive expectations on their work futures, and also to develop strategies that express as well as the perseverance in the search of new employment locations and the trust in the possibilities of success.However, the recent creation of these services have been faced with the absence of theoretical models about its purposes, as well as the profile of traverse and specific competitions of the career counsellor for immigrants. This work shows the results of a study carried out with the purpose of analyze and define the professional profile of intercultural work mediator, as well as the organizational structure of the career counselling services for immigrants.
Methodology: This study was carried out using a descriptive methodology. It was used two instruments for gathering information. The first instrument was a questionnaire that allowed to do an inventory of the characteristics of the career counselling services; the second one was an interview in depth made to the professionals of the orientation.
Conclusions: Starting from the analysis of different national career counselling services, we present a model that contemplates two aspects:1. Functions and structure of the career counselling services for immigrants: a. Unit of information. b. Documentation unit (labour exchange). c. Formation unit. d. "Labour counselling" (mediation and pursuit). e. Investigation unit: prospective studies (market and migratory phenomenon).2. Lists that it should carry out the career counsellor, as well as the activities that characterize each one of them:a. Informant b. Counsellor c. Mediator d. Teachere. Searcher of resourcesf.
