Topic An investigation into the impact of integrating text animated graphics and audio in an asynchronous e-learning community: What impact does it have on cognitive load, learning outcomes? Research question Is the integration of multimedia on e-learning comunities having a the same impact on students learning outcomes, satisfaction and cognitive load for both field dependent and field independent learners? Objectives 1. To assess how multimedia integration on e-learning communities affect posetively or negatively students during the learning process. 2. To determine if there is any relationship between cognitive load and the learning outcomes as one will be learning within a multimedia enhanced e-learning community. Student's cognitive style influence students' performance and satisfaction in a multimedia enhanced e learning community. 2. The integration of multimedia (animation and audio) on to an Asynchronous e learning community can lead to cognitive overload which in turn can affect the student learning outcomes as well as satisfaction in the learning process. 3. The learning outcomes of field independent students improve as we integrate more media in the learning environment. 4. There is a relationship between cognitive load and final score. 5. Text, animated graphics and audio leads to higher cognitive load on students who are field dependent than on students who are field independent. 6. There is a relationship between satisfaction and cognitive load. Hidden figure test was used to determine the cognitive styles of learners,A short ASSIST(Approaches to Studying) (18 item) of Entwistle, was used to determine the study approaches.Three e-learning environments were developed using Camtasia studio showing the levels of multimedia integration.
