The German "bildung" theory was developed around the first half of the 18th century, and the theory became applied in philosophical, literarily and political terms. The theory can be understood in three perspectives; the power of the human self and its expression, the culture of power and its affection and at last the poetical refinement between the human self and the culture. The theory is today tied in the interface of a post-modern version about the classical idea of upbringing, -as a transformation of the human self and the culture. Interface between the present and the future, calls up on hope and UtopiaNietzsche's reflections and aphorism can illustrate an extended version of the "bildung" theory. We discuss Hamsuns novel, "Growth of the soil", in a pedagogic perspective of the "bildung" theory, where the human self, the will, truth and knowledge is central The interface-theory has two different ways to step out of the condition. The first one are; to deny the reality, the second one is to conduct oneself to what could have been. Both of them are known to the post-modern condition in a symbolic way as the fundamentalist and the other one as the fanatic and the dream. The suggestion about a "bildung" in a world with postmodern conditions, should apeal to an extended prospect based on the Dionysian philosophy of life.Main references Løvlie, Lars & Korsgaard, Ove & Slagstad, Rune (2003), Transformation of "bildung" Pax Forlag as. The young one becomes the apprentice who learns his lesson from the older and educated man. This process take place in the conflict between where he is at the moment and what he is trying to achieve in the future. This can be considered as a techno-cultural kind of "bildung". The techno-culture is older than the German "bildung" theory, and it's a part of the same idea.In 1929, Knut Hamsun declared the following: "No one did as much impression to me in my youth as Dostojevskij, Nietzsche and Strindberg." We discuss his novel, "Growth of the soil", in a pedagogic perspective of the "bildung" theory, where the human self, the will, truth and knowledge is central. The main message in the novel is the faith in farming as the most important purpose for the human being. Isak Sellanraa, the main character, roam northwards through the wilderness in search for a place to settle down. Around his farm it grows up a community, and this becomes the centre of his own project of "bildung".The sons of Isak Sellanraa, Eleseus and Sivert, are growing up together, but in different directions and reality. The modern self create a gathered self, build up by the "meta stories". The post-modern self is a fragmented self where the circumstances are individualized. Under the instinct of the formation of the self is the will of power. The feeling of power sublimates and forms the basis of development of the cultural heritage. The conception is used by Nietzsche in different meanings; it is an expression for the common energy as a result in all actions as; intellect and self-control, overcoming of the bestial operation and in the daily importance. Nietzsche alleges that all decently actions come out of the idea will of power. The way to become superhuman goes by forming the self, and only a few people with special quality and powers shall be able to become superhuman. After the living life the superhuman want to say yes to the life, unconditionally. He wants to be living this life again in an eternally, along with all the suffering and beauty this involve. In connection with Nietzsches theory, the novel "Growth of the soil" consider as the process of "bildung", what Nietzsche calls a process of education. Isak Sellanrå constructs his personal life as a work of art for the persons who comes after. Isak live his life as he copes, in an eternal recurrence. He is accepting himself and his family; he aims for peace of mind and freedom. Nietzsche considers that will of power have to be seen together with disharmony, in part of development. It is the will of power that gives us the courage to fight for our own freedom, through the will becomes the self something new, by expanding, as moving around as the hermeneutical (developing) circle. If the will of power is considered as ability at to actualize and form the own self, you can say that it is the process of "bildung". Nietzsche says that the self is not something we just have in the starting point, we create it through adoption. Such as Isak creates his own person by achieve his true potential. The projects are replacing each other in an eternal circle. Isak admit how he is and accept his actuality. Isak learn his children such as "the white brick is harder than the grey brick¨. The way Isak sees it is that ignorance of knowledge is a strength for the human being, but competence are important - to carry on with the farming. Sivert continue
