This paper considers the resources contemporary pragmatist philosophy provides for the conversation concerning value education. Such pragmatist philosophers as Hilary Putnam and Nicholas Reshcer have recently presented powerful arguments in terms of the entanglement of fact and value, objecting the metaphysical implications usually unjustifiably concluded from Hume's law. This conversation has its roots in earlier pragmatism, particularly in the contributions of Peirce and Dewey, later elaborated, among others, by Villard Van Orman Quine, Nelson Goodman, and Israel Scheffler. This is to say that the fact value dichotomy is conceptually connected to such basic pragmatist epistemological ideas as the Goodmanian idea of initial credibilities, the Schefflerian idea of plurealism, the Peircean idea of fallibilism developed by Quine, and Deweyan idea of critical inquiry in terms of all realms of human understanding developed by Scheffler. In the present paper I will argue that the contemporary pragmatist apporach, as it is presented by Putnam and Rescher, offers useful resources for the conversation of value education in multicultural and pluralist society.Philosophical analysis, reconstruction, and argumentation.
