Paper Session Joint Session NW 17 and NW 20
Contribution
According to the anniversary of EERA the paper reconstructs the particular way ECERs presentations collectively represent a structured European Educational research area. It focuses upon cultural or national contexts of attendance, topics and themes covered by networks and research methods used. In particular it asks to what extent papers presented at ECERs contribute to Europe and the process of Europeanisation, and whether this degree changes over time. The analysis is based on an exploitation of ECER proposals over a time span of about ten years. It presents results, which will be published in a special anniversary issue of EERJ in more detail and raises questions about possible future directions of EERA- In this respects the paper tries to contribute to a mode of comparative educational research as an exciting and inspiring mode of historical and empirical investigation, scholarly reflection, and intellectual self-governance. It aims at using comparison as a methodological and epistemological tool to defamiliarise and disenchant ourselves and the context we are embedded in as researchers.
