Contribution

The relation between: on the one hand, thinking traditions as for example structuralism, post-structuralism, hermeneutic, phenomenology and pragmatism; and, on the other hand the range of research approaches within ESD-research is not always made explicit. As all, or at least most researchers, lean on and uses some of the ”tools" in these thinking traditions it seems crucial that discussion about research paradigms in the field should also take into account these thinking traditions. The paper considers how certain research focuses, for example learning research or critical research, may result in different ways of conducting research in our field, depending upon the different thinking traditions they are based in.
