25 SES 14, The UNCRC at 25. Critical Reflections on its Influence and Impact on Educational Research; Past, Present and Future
Symposium
Contribution
The exponential growth of technology in the 21st Century digital world creates a challenge where educational practices to research and dissemination may require further consideration. Educational researchers of the future will be skilled in the use of these technologies presenting the opportunity for those currently interested in children’s rights in education to explore the prospects and tensions in developing future research agendas. This paper provides a future-oriented perspective that critically reflects upon how the CRC may reform future educational research internationally in focusing on three ways of conceptualising educational practice differently through; 1. Maximizing potential audiences and influence for individuals to take children’s rights seriously. 2. Opportunities to develop aspects surrounding children’s rights in education 3. Engaging researchers beyond those already interested in children’s rights in education, widening the arena of discourse and strengthening the potential for interdisciplinary projects. Theoretical and philosophical arguments relating to the CRC when considering the ever-changing ‘21st Century digital world’ and how the use of social media can enhance the activities of Network 25 as “an arena for continuous, critical and focused discussion and elaboration on research issues with a bearing on children’s rights in educational contexts” (Network25Descriptor) now, and in the future are discussed.
