Contribution
To help a community of the north of the France to make a decision on developping education system through sport, a diagnosis and recommandations have been proposed.
According to Philippe MERIEU (2000), the main three institutions in charge of child education are organised around one main function which sends back to an essential logic, but non exclusive, and constituting its foundation. These are : teaching for school, socialisation for outdoor activities, filiation for family, which does not prevent the fact that the aim of school is socialising and family teaching. The notion of “education through sports” closely follows all ages, above small childhood and youngness, to reach adult and senior population.
According the report published in “Sport de rue et insertion sociale” (Duret P., Augustini M., 1993), the government implemented a politics of sports local equipment since 1990. This politics had to be decided and built partnership with youngsters and they had to ensure its interaction.
In majority of cases, equipments were installed in the neighbourhood to be developed by the city’s policy. Short term effects are expected like violence prevention during holidays while youngsters are able to practice freely various sport activities in partnership with sociocultural as sport clubs. These sport equipments have to rebuilt the social link between locals and to make easier social mediation towards the youngsters of the neighbourhood. The potencial actors of sociocultural and sport associations are important, but the possibilities of partnership are to be formatized.
Method
The sociodemographic analysis of this diagnosis concerned sport clubs. 58 installations and 115 sports equipments dedicatis to physical have been analysed. Interviews of sport education policy actors have been lead (technicians, elected, responsibles), as of a listing of sport equipment and consideration of socio-demographic features.
Thus on 19 responsible people of structures have been interrogated and 7 locals.
Expected Outcomes
The results of this research revealed financing of high level clubs by the collectivity. The diagnosis on the territory in means of sport activities underscores the need for implementing a new sport offer in partnership with the city-hall departments and local actors of sociocultural and sport sectors.
Recommandations of this study that will develop education through sport on this area are :
- generally speaking, the project has to be lead in coherence with specific needs and partnership behween the different educational services regarding children an teenagers.
- the project relies sociocultural and sport associations, and potencial support structures likes point ecoutes parents.
- Parents being integrated to this project.
- Social centres and other local structures being essential partners of the mediation between young people and getting them to sport activities.
