Session Information
28 SES 08 A, National Sociologies within the Big Spaces: Reflections on Progress of Some European and International Journals
Symposium
Contribution
The journal Scuola Democratica has a long tradition of analysis and comparison of education and training at Italian level, with a punctual observation of the European and international dimensions. The journal tends to increase contributions written and published in English or French, rather than Italian, just to allow the expansion of the number of readers and scholars who can help to thicken the critical debate around various forms of discussion and confrontation, especially in the European landscape. Since 2008, editorial board has been launching diverse publications – academic essays, brief commentaries, articles and symposium - describing, analysing and debating the hegemony of determined paradigms in the mainstream: Europeanisation, standardization, homogenization, parametrization and evaluation of educational perfomances. New public management and transcalar convergence of rhetoric discourses and practices on policies, governance, reforms and institutional transformations are key objects of criticism. Our recent Special Issues devoted considerable space to the criticism coming from ‘the bottom’. Each issue of the Scuola Democratica hosts a section entitled International Observatory, which publishes essays related to national cases for comparison that foods reflection on the differences in the systems and their location with respect to the political, cultural and organizational context of each.
