Paper Session
Contribution
This contribution summarises the first conclusions of a research program which has been developed between the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon and several Chinese Universities regarding the education of the elites.
This theme has generated a lot of work since the 1990s and the first overviews which were published were based on Anglo-Saxon issues: they linked the interest in educating the elites to the philosophy being developed by the new American right in the 1980s and inscribed in the policies of the State retreating against the rise of market forces. The aim of the French-Chinese program is to broaden this framework by analysing two examples which demonstrate how ancient is the desire to educate the elite and how its implementation is steered by the State.
