The workshop is aimed at reflecting on the last five years of the network 28 and thinking forward through its past. The context and a nature of the network have shifted slightly over the past five years and it offers academic researchers to reconsider challenges and opportunities of  transnational spaces within the field of sociology of education.

Collaboration across institutional and disciplinary boundaries called this network to life. To think in a critical way and encapsulate the philosophical and political potential of the sociology of education was the original intention of the founders.

During this workshop hopes and anxieties, potentials and fears, belongings and dislocations as well as moralities are placed to generate new understanding what the network is and what it can be. These include questions concerning the themes addressed during conferences, relations within and outside EERA, publication strategies, event management and activities beyond ECER and EERA.

Method

The ambition and scope of this workshop is to generate, formulate and bring into reality the emergent potentialities of the new. To reach this rather ambitious aim the workshop will be organized around reflections of invited founders. It leads us to question and reflect upon the current understanding of the network. Finally, participants try to illuminate original lines of discovery, practice and reflection.

Expected Outcomes

The following elements have been identified as in particular need of address: • Capacity building strategy • Identitiy politics • Visibility • Social and institutional embededness
