Symposium
Contribution
The Strategic Partnership Erasmus Partnership Education for Democratic Intercultural Education The 3-year project funded by the Erasmus+ programme started September 2016 and will end August 2019. The project is a research based design approach in which each university develops a module in that area of EDIC in which they have research expertise. Pilots of this module have been done in the academic year 2017/2018 in the own university. In an annual Intensive programme students and teachers of the 7 universities give a try out of elements of their modules (this year in Tallinn/Helsinki). Cooperation in research activities stimulates the comparative approach of EDIC+, a curriculum structure, and a network between the universities is constructed. The modules and the materials are open to all students and teachers. In this presentation we will give an overview of the research, design and teaching activities of 3 of the universities and present them in the context of the whole project. Focus topics for the universities´ modules are: 1. Theory and Practice of Citizenship Education (University of Humanistic Studies, Utrecht) 2. Ethical Competencies for Democratic Citizenship at School and in Families (University of Barcelona) 3. Social and Educational Inclusion in Schools and their Communities (Bath Spa University) 4. Teachers' Moral Competence in Pedagogical Encounters (University of Helsinki) 5. Educational Activities in Civil Society (Charles University, Prague) 6. Education Policy and Citizenship in Education (Tallinn University) 7. Multicultural/Intercultural Education (Aristotle University, Thessaloniki) All universities will use the same strategy in the production of modules and intellectual output. 1) Analysing possible target groups who would be interested in participating in this module 2) Defining the aims of the module according to the goals of EDIC+ and the needs of the target groups 3) Collecting data from other EDIC+ countries by comparative research 4) Describing the content of the module according to its aim, and analysing and incorporating new changes brought on by field experience and the results of latest research findings 5) Making agreements with civil society organisations and schools for guest lectures and field visits 6) Describing the learning outcomes and assessment criteria 7) Piloting parts of the module at the EDIC+ intensive programmes and at own universities 8) Discussing the programme and its practice with the visiting EDIC+ teacher 9) Enhancing the module 10) Producing a final version of the module In this symposium we will present the development of three modules and the evaluation of the Intensive Programme
