Contribution
The Research on Children’s Rights in Education network is one of the few (if not the only) international research networks focused specifically on the intersection between education and children’s rights. Due to the highly diverse geographical locations of our network members, spanning across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas, the EERA network and the ECER conference is a crucial collaboration arena for children’s rights researchers. Since 2015, the Network have produced at least 4 journal special issues and one edited book. Currently we also have a second edited book in development as part of the EERA Series with our network contributors to this volume spanning several European and non-European countries. Our pursuits through our previous network activities provide tangible evidence for some of the ways our network collectively seek to further high-quality educational research for the benefit of education, society, Europe, EERA and our EERA network.
Over the years, conversations between network members have repeatedly identified mutual research interests, but time to develop these into concrete project ideas has not been sufficient during the conference. Ideas conceptualised during ECER have not been possible to pursue beyond the stimulating and immersive close interaction in the ECER conference environment. This network collaboration session is expected to provide an opportunity for network members to take the next step towards international research collaboration, which is to move initial ideas into action – i.e. to elaborate actual research projects. We believe that this step could be immensely important to the network’s development: The research conducted by the network members is of high quality and of societal relevance. But, the research is mainly national in character and few researchers are involved in international collaborative research about children’s rights in education. The convenor team believes that increasing cross-national research and research collaboration within the network’s field of study holds great potential for network development.
