Contribution
This paper analyses the changes to the National Professional Qualifications that have been reformed by Central Government for launch this year, in 2021. The paper examines this suite of qualifications and compares them to the previous iteration of NPQs that existed and looks at the pushes and pulls of the system that has created them. The Department for Education in England has become increasing neo-Conservative and has been steadily removing the role of universities from both Initial Teacher Training and Education and in Leadership Preparation and Development. This paper examines the newly launched suite of programmes - and who is responsible for providing them - and examines what the government hope to gain from this. Education in England over the last decade has moved away from becoming a Masterly Profession, as was encouraged by the previous New Labour Government (1997-2010) and instead has become far more centralised and reliant on a few key 'charitable' providers, as opposed to involvement from university higher education departments.
