Contribution
The relevance of the ongoing work is due, on the one hand, to reports of a continuing deterioration in the health of schoolchildren from year to year [1–4]. On the other hand, the lack of a preventive direction in medicine and health education, minimizing medical support at school lead to the need for the school teacher to master the activities of preventing and correcting functional disorders and diseases caused by the school. Questionnaire surveys conducted by the laboratory of health promotion in education of the Moscow Sity University since 2018 among teachers of Moscow schools showed that at present the work of a teacher in the field of health-saving and a healthy lifestyle is not carried out or is not carried out properly due to the high workload of a modern teacher and lack of modern electronic visual aids in this area [6].
Our surveys of teachers in Moscow in recent years indicate an existing demand for the development of methodological support, modern forms of educational and methodological materials to ensure their work on the formation of a healthy lifestyle (HLS) and the prevention of health disorders in schoolchildren [5–7].
In recent years, there has been a rapid process of digital transformation in the school, which has led to the replacement of traditional technical teaching aids with digital ones. Teachers are increasingly willing to use digital technologies to increase the visibility of learning, master presentation graphics, streaming video, the Internet and digital educational resources [8]. To effectively use digital technologies in solving educational and organizational problems, schools require digital learning materials. Currently, to implement these tasks, schoolchildren and teachers have electronic libraries, electronic journals and diaries. An example of such a resource for a Moscow school is the Moscow Electronic School (MES) library. In the spring of 2020, the whole world faced a new reality: the spread of the virus forced to close not only the borders of countries, but also school doors. Education was transferred to a remote mode, and the issues of maintaining health in conditions of total physical inactivity and an increased load on vision and posture became especially relevant. In addition, it became obvious that in order to preserve the health of the student, it is necessary to create new manuals in digital (multimedia) format, suitable for conducting classes online and offline, both during school hours and after school hours.
Purpose of the study. To study the request of a teacher and a schoolchild for the development of methodological support, modern forms of educational and methodological materials for activities to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent health disorders in schoolchildren.
Method
In December 2020, a survey was conducted of 270 teachers and 425 schoolchildren aged 11 to 17 years (grades 5-11) in Moscow to identify a request for the creation of digital (multimedia) manuals for work on the formation of a healthy lifestyle and the prevention of health disorders, and their preferences regarding the content of such manuals. To conduct the survey, questionnaires were developed for teachers and schoolchildren. The questionnaire for teachers contained 22 questions, the questionnaire for schoolchildren contained 20 questions. When developing the questionnaires, emphasis was placed on issues related primarily to the necessary forms of work to preserve and improve the health of schoolchildren at school, the frequency of work at school to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent health disorders in schoolchildren, basic teaching aids, and sources of information for such work. with schoolchildren, and whether there is a request for teaching aids for this activity, and what topics and formats are of interest to schoolchildren and teachers. Questions of the questionnaires are set out in the most accessible language and easy to understand. The questionnaires do not contain open questions, however, they allow expressing their opinion not only in the “other” field, but also in clarifying questions in continuation of the question asked. The survey was conducted using information and communication technologies, in a Google form for online surveys. Each survey participant could follow the link and answer the questions in the questionnaire. The survey could be completed both at home and at the workplace. Participation in the survey was voluntary and anonymous.
Expected Outcomes
The study showed that teachers and schoolchildren are aware of the importance of activities for the formation of health and a healthy lifestyle carried out at school. When answering the question about the necessary forms of work to preserve and improve the health of schoolchildren at school, the opinions of all respondents coincided. The majority chose medical care (51.5%), school-wide events (42.2%), counseling for students and their parents (34.8%). We also clarified how often such work is carried out. Opinions of teachers and students on this issue differed greatly. Less than half of the teachers (37%) carry out such work on a daily basis and several times a week (18.5%), schoolchildren noted that such work is rarely / not carried out at all (29.6%). However, when asked whether they need benefits for such work, the majority of teachers (63.7%) and schoolchildren (56.3%) answered in the affirmative. More than 75% of teachers and 57.6% of schoolchildren noted that multimedia material is the most preferred form of aid. We also asked about the most relevant topics of the manuals: schoolchildren are interested in first aid (64.8%), proper nutrition (61.9%), posture (58.6%), healthy lifestyle (55.8%), disease prevention (46.9%). Most teachers consider materials on the correct handling of gadgets and screens to be a relevant topic (57.8%), the rest of the answers coincide with the choice of students. Summing up the results of the study on identifying the request from teachers and schoolchildren for the creation of multimedia aids for the formation of health, it can be argued that such a request exists. As for the content of such manuals, the preferences of teachers and schoolchildren coincide. Of greatest interest are the topics of maintaining vision, the formation of correct posture, proper nutrition and the formation of a healthy lifestyle, and disease prevention.
