Context/problem: With approx. 95,000 dual trainees in Peru (2020), SENATI is a successful training institution with its own dual learning model. The establishment of in-company training was supported with German VET transfer. Until today, one problem is identifying and qualifying good trainers. Research questions: How do trainers perceive their role, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises? Can the craft-based traditional, also informal apprenticeship in rural regions, which has survived to this day in Peru, provide new impulses for an in-company training culture? Method/approach: The methodological approach of an applied and utilised research consists first of all of capturing the in-company training quality and culture by conducting guideline-based interviews of trainers and trainees and of discovering how trainers act in the companies. It can be stated that the training institution SENATI is in charge of essential steering tasks such as the preparation of training plans. Through biographical narrative interviews of skilled workers who have undergone a craft-based traditional, also informal apprenticeship far away from any formal training, their suitability as trainers will be explored. Expected result: The identified "maestros" - masters, as they are called - definitely have potential for in-company training in the dual learning model.
