10 SES 09 B, Pedagogical Identity Development of Teachers
Symposium
Contribution
The funded research project is based on the hypothesis that the creation of a community of professionals could provide a learning environment that helps to develop the core competences of professional teachers. These competences, the presenters argue, are closely linked to the creation of a habitus which, according to Bourdieu, can be understood as a system of acquired, durable and transposable "dispositions”. The idea of the professional habitus – if it develops its full potential – is based on this concept. According to the concept to be presented it functions in two modalities: intuition modality which involves the capacity to capture and explore pedagogical situations and meanings as well as the modality of the efficient use of reflective thought and methodology. Both modalities interact in decision-making and problem-solving when confronted with the challenge of the pedagogical situation. The data of the research project on the professional community are collected in a multi-perspective approach based on an ethnographic design: interviews with teacher education students, lesson observation, videos of lessons that students teach in their practical trainings as well as during the induction phase, stimulated recall etc. (Schrittesser & Hofer, 2009), (Schrittesser, Wenninger & Logar, 2006.
