16 SES 11 B, Web-Based Teaching and Learning (part 2)
Symposium, Continued from 16 SES 10 B
Contribution
Information Technology has brought new challenges to learners in the sense that the access to different sources of information involves new ways of planning and accomplishing learning tasks as well as specific skill development, such as information searching, selection and evaluation. In this sense, we will consider the potential of an Information Technology tool, the Web, which is one of the most used channels to establish communication, share, search and recover information. The technological advances that the Web represents at cultural, social and economical levels may compel educational systems to respond to a new learning culture. Also, this tool have the potential to promote SRL as it allows learners to decide how, when and where how to search for new information. In light of this, we will presents a descriptive case study of the learning paths of 11th grade students involving cross-referencing of data originated from observations, interviews and stimulated recall in order to capture student perspectives related with SRL dimensions (cognitive/metacognitive, behavioural, motivational/affective and contextual) and information gathering by using the Web. We will articulate problem-solving and information gathering based on Web research and the SRL models which may be adapted to TELEs.
