The study of children who display behavioural emotional and social difficulties has been the focus of extensive research and reports for many years. The research has focused persistently on what the nature of good practice regarding the education for these children should be. This especially reflects the situation of the British educational system. While this has been the case in the UK, in Cyprus the education of children who may demonstrate behaviour emotional and social difficulties remains even more elusive. Recently the Cypriot educational system has approved a policy prioritizing the education of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The schools operating under this policy are likely to be attended by a number of pupils presenting these difficulties; yet good practice with these children seems to be a neglected issue by Cypriot researchers and educational authorities up until recently. This presentation is based upon a study which explores how teachers and professionals working in two schools, , perceive good practice for children with BESD. the study’s main objectives were to explore the following questions:
How the needs of children with BESD are currently addressed (identification, assessment and decisions for provision)?
Are there any emerging issues from how procedures to address the needs of children with BESD, are currently in use?
What are the lessons taught from the present practice in the two schools?
How do teachers and associate professionals feel in general about the current school practice in terms of how the needs of children are met, people involved, and procedures developed examples of good practice?
