This paper reports the preliminary results of a needs analyis survey conducted within the framework of a European Union Lifelong Learning programme, Leaonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation project, entitled “MLARG: Mobile learning for the young people at risk groups". The aim of the project is to to test the effectiveness of the mobile language learning technologies in helping tourism vocational high school students practice foreign language they are learning outside the class hours. The project is created and coordinated by Bogazici University. Two of the project partners (Slovak and Italian partners) participated in the application of the needs analysis questionnaire in their own countries. This was done to increase the cross-cultural applicability of the project by finding the similarities and differences between the needs of students with similar profiles in different contexts. The researchers were aware of the fact that the needs of the vocational high school students in each context would be different from each other. Therefore, the pedagogical content developed for one of the groups would not be applicable to the other groups. However, the interview questions could be used for each group to find out about the opinions and perspective of people from the tourism sector on the applicability and usefulness of innovative technologies on tourism vocational schools students’ foreign language development.
