Symposium
Contribution
Insuring the employability of older workers by raising investments in their further education and training, is one of Germany’s main goal in recent years as part of the solution for the problems caused by population ageing. Yet, questions regarding the effectiveness of such policy tool in keeping older workers actively engaged in the labor market, are rising. This research investigates the relation between the participation in job-related-training programs and the level of job-satisfaction among older workers. It is part of a broader research which examines the relation between participation in job-related-training and retirement decision. Based on previous empirical findings stressing for a positive relation between training and a worker’s job-satisfaction, this research aims to serve as a platform for further research regarding the effectiveness of human capital investments in older workers in raising their probability to stay in the workforce. Using the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP) we estimate an Ordered Logit model. The dependent variable job-satisfaction (measured on a scale from 1-10) is hereby a function of a set of socio-economic explanatory variables, and a binary variable having the value of 1 for older people who participated in training programs and 0 otherwise.
