Symposium
Contribution
As part of an international endeavor intending to explore the role properties of school superintendents in different educational contexts, the following study focuses on the Israeli school Comprehensive Superintendent. In the Israeli public educational system, the Comprehensive Superintendent is responsible for the operation of the schools according to the educational regulations defined by the Ministry of Education. The articulated major tasks of the Comprehensive Superintendent entail the controlling and supervising of schools’ conduct, which include a rather large variety of role duties: ensuring the implementing of educational policies, developing school performance and personnel, enabling local initiatives to take place, evaluating and controlling the educational institutions, recruiting school principals and teachers. Moreover, the Comprehensive Superintendent is also expected to become involved in supervision and mentorship activities of school principals and teachers.
