Session Information
02 SES 01 A, Future of VET - Crises, Continuity, or Changes?
Round Table
Contribution
This European panel will present an overview of the issues facing Vocational Education and Training currently and in the future. It is possible to say that VET is suffering from policy fatigue, having experienced so many policy initiatives and expectations over past decades. Key questions guiding the discussion include a consideration of the European and national policy contexts, the concerns by governments to develop highly skilled and qualified workforces able to support economic competition and viability, and consideration for the learner in this top down policy agenda. Each presenter will contribute her/his perspectives on the Future of VET that will be followed by an opportunity for discussion.
This session on ‘The Future of VET: Crisis, Continuity, or Change?’ is designed in an interactive workshop format to provide an opportunity for participants to discuss issues facing VET in small groups, and to contribute to a general discussion from which we can gain ideas for the next conference, research and for publications. As a scoping of the VET programme activity, everyone will be invited to share their experiences and interests. A ‘plenary’ will enable the workshop participants to produce a range of ideas, models and recommendations for the future of VET to report to the conference and beyond. We are hoping to encourage some ‘blue sky’ thinking as to the ways forward with VET.
