Contribution
This paper explores the work of late moderns -- Simmel’s “The Metropolis and Mental Life,’ Weber’s ‘Concepts and Categories of the City,’ Benjamin’s Arcades Project, and Heidegger’s ‘Building, Dwelling, Thinking’—as a basis for exploring the ‘philosophy of the city’ as an educational project, the city as a regulative ideal and the location for intercultural citizenship. It maps this theoretical discussion against the history of Cadiz and seeks to develop the history of Cadiz as a basis for a philosophy of the city.
